I am happy to announce that the importing of player stats from a spreadsheet is now live on all MFLHistory.com sites. Officially, this probably deserves a beta tag, so please be patient if you find any glitches — I’ll be sure to get them fixed as quickly as I can.
Here’s how it works:
- Go to the Admin Area, and select the Maintain Season menu option
- Under “Player Stats”, you will now see an active Import Player Stats link for every season, including those when you were not using MyFantasyLeague
- Clicking that link will bring you to the usual Player Stat Import screen, but it includes a new option: Import Player Stats from a Spreadsheet
- Clicking that link will bring you to a screen that looks similar to the manual game import screen. The spreadsheet (in .csv format) that you need to create for player stat import requires five columns. This page shows an example, displays your fantasy team IDs for the selected season and includes a link to a page that lets you view the Player IDs
- Upload your .csv file here
- The next page will show you the results of your upload, including decoding player and fantasy team names so you can verify your entry
- Once you submit, the player stats will be added to your database and should appear in the Player Records where appropriate
Some notes here:
- You MUST use the numerical IDs for BOTH players and fantasy teams
- You can see the fantasy team IDs on page where you add your file for import
- On that same page, there is a link to a list of Player IDs — which you can filter by position for your league’s purposes (the default is to show the common positions of QB, RB, WR, TE, PK and Def)
- Since many of the player records are broken down by starter and bench players, this is a required field
- Some of the Player IDs that MFL uses start with a leading zero. This can be complicated to work with in most spreadsheet programs, since they commonly assume that you’re entering a number and drop the leading zero. Be CAREFUL to change your field types to text before populating your input file — this should preserve these leading zeros appropriately.
If you have any problems or questions, feel free to post them in the Support Forum and I’ll get to them as soon as I can!

I have some additional ideas for this part of the site, and it currently lacks an admin area (so you’re stuck with the default titles and display order for the moment), but I thought I’d post this update to MFLHistory tonight.
All MFLHistory sites now have a new option for Team Pages. This section allows you to choose a team, and will then display the all-time cumulative record for that team, their season-by-season performance, and their record against all other teams in the league (that they faced).
I’m sure many of you will have additional ideas for this area and I’d love to hear the feedback (and for you CSS guys out there, let me know what other tags I should add to give you more control here), so check it out and post your ideas in the forum!

This was originally posted by bonscott in the old MFLAddons forums, but I think it deserves a re-post here:
So I was pretty suprised to see the MFLHistory app had the ability to manually create back seasons. In working with the guys I figured out how you can take your FLM history and import them into the historical app. Click the link to my history pages to the left to see what it looks like.
Like many of you vets this is my first year with MFL but I have many seasons worth of data in FLM. To import the game data into the history app you need to create just one CSV report per season in FLM, do some minor edits and then import.
This was done with the last 2004 version which was released in April 05 or so. 2005 beta is out and it should work in there as well.
NOTE: You really need Excel of other spreadsheet editor (check out OpenOffice for a free one if you don’t have Excel) otherwise you’ll have a lot of manual editing ahead of you.
First, lets make the report. Create a custom Fantasy Schedule report. Below are listed all the settings you need *CHECKED*. If it ain’t listed don’t check it.
Setup Tab
———————-
Items to Include:
Fantasy Team Format - Set to “Team Name”
Weekly Scores
Playoff Weeks
Players and Positions:
Nothing here to see
Layout, Group, Sort:
Number of Columns - 1
Space between Columns - 2
Exclude Titles
Exclude Column Headers
Exclude Column Footers
Delivery Tab
————————-
Choose where you want the report to go.
Check the CSV file option. Leave the name as default.
Check the Season option next to it.
Now Click OK.
You’ll probably get the report to come up on screen if you left that option checked, just close it.
You should now have a dialog box and click OK. Go to the location where you saved the report and open it in Notepad. You should see some output similar to below:
Week #1
Argues Army,125.98,at,Stephayn Doppelgangers,138.10
Air Force,94.10,at,Shetland Ponies,115.51
Canadian Geese,176.80,at,Amish Rakefighters,131.00
Portage Enforcers,127.85,at,Capital Punishment,151.61
Polish Avengers,151.50,at,Killer BBs,149.92
Lakeshore Fighting Cocks,151.85,at,Cowgirls,121.90
Week #2
Shetland Ponies,101.05,at,Argues Army,110.05
Stephayn Doppelgangers,141.15,at,Air Force,125.32
If you don’t then you didn’t do it right, try again.
NOTE: The second team will be assumed to be the home team, this is how FLM creates the report.
Assuming everything looks right then in FLM go to your earliest season and your last week of the season (so for me it was 1999 Week 16). Run the report.
Now move forward to the last week of each season and run the report.
When done you should now have one report per season.
You will now need to edit each one in Excel.
First thing, delete Column C, the one with the “at” in it.
Now insert a new column before column A. This should now be the first column and blank. What you need to do is enter in the week number before each machup (all of them). You should see each week broken up by section and labled. This will make it very each to do this so you’ll know what weeks are what.
Once completed, delete each row with the “Week #X” in it.
Save, close and let’s check your work in notepad. You should now see something like this:
1,Argues Army,125.98,Stephayn Doppelgangers,138.1
1,Air Force,94.1,Shetland Ponies,115.51
1,Canadian Geese,176.8,Amish Rakefighters,131
1,Portage Enforcers,127.85,Capital Punishment,151.61
1,Polish Avengers,151.5,Killer BBs,149.92
1,Lakeshore Fighting Cocks,151.85,Cowgirls,121.9
2,Shetland Ponies,101.05,Argues Army,110.05
2,Stephayn Doppelgangers,141.15,Air Force,125.32
Now edit each report for each season.
And that is it, you are now ready to import your historical data from FLM into the MFLHistory app!
Any questions FLM related I can try to answer them. Any other questions should be directed to the MFLHistory guys.

I’m happy to announce that the draft cheatsheet app that was offered for free at MFLAddons last season is up-and-running for 2006.
Basically what this tool does is take your league configuration (based on your five-digit MyFantasyLeague id) and display MFL’s DraftTracker data customized for your league (meaning it only shows positions that are eligible in your league). This doesn’t take your scoring system into account, and there are no guarantees that this will help you win your league.
Also, since this is based on MFL’s DraftTracker data, it will get more accurate as more drafts are run at MFL.
Available here: MFLHistory Cheatsheet
Totally free for anyone to use!

Just a quick note to let all of you know that I’ll be taking a little vacation to Las Vegas from May 25-28. You’re probably not all that interested in how much I’m going to bet on the Packers to win the Super Bowl, but this does mean that any new orders, renewals or support requests likely won’t get responded to until Monday, May 29.
Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone!
May 24th, 2006
As of today (May 14), the ability to map your MFLHistory site to your 2006 myFantasyLeague league is now available.
You’ll see some new messages in the Admin section of your site.
If you are paid through the 2006 season:
On the dashboard, you’ll see this message:

and, if you click the “Import Season” menu item, you’ll see the following:

If you have not yet renewed your MFLHistory subscription for 2006:
The following message will appear on both the Dashboard and Import Season menus:

Please be sure to allow 24 hours for all renewals to be processed.
If you believe that you are paid through the 2006 season but the site is saying that you are not, please contact me directly
A couple of things to consider as you decide whether to map your 2006 league now or wait until closer to the start of the regular season:
- Team changes (different names, new teams), division alignment changes and season configuration changes (number of regular vs playoff weeks, for example) made after you map your league to MFLHistory will require you to “refresh” the season data and/or delete and re-import the data for the season
- It’s best to finalize your regular season schedule before mapping to MFLHistory — otherwise your GameCenter pages will be inaccurate until you refresh the games data for the season
- Finally, the only real benefit to mapping now is that you won’t have to do it later. The automated updates of game data obviously won’t happen until the games start in September
If you have any questions or problems with mapping your 2006 league, please use the Support Forum to request help!

Just to throw it out there upfront: This is NOT an announcement of new features being rolled out.
(and yes, I realize that I said something like ‘look for this around March Madness time’ — I think I know now one of the reasons why the Sideline guys never talk about release dates for new features!)
But, I do feel like I owe all of you a bit of an update to what’s going on with the app right now, so here goes:
In a purely test format (i.e., test results in straight text format, not displayable on the site), I have some code working that will allow for a tremendous number of ways to slice and dice single game records (I simply started there since they’re the most straightforward to work with). With this new design, single game records could be shown for all-time, a single season, a range or group of seasons, a range or group of weeks, a single week, a single team, a group of teams, for division or non-division games only (conferences too), and for a specific set of game types definable by you. Some examples of what this new setup would allow you to do:
- Most Points Scored, 2003-2005
- Least Points Scored by Barney’s Bombers in a Week 6 game
- Highest Victory Margin in a Playoff Game in 2001, 2003 or 2005
- Most Combined Points in a Division game involving Barney’s Bombers
- Most Points Scored in Week 1
As this retooling of the MFLHistory “engine” makes its way through the rest of the record types (and obviously into the functioning site for display), it will provide all of you with an incredible amount of customizability over the records on your sites.
In addition, this is an important step toward the creation of team-specific record pages (see those references to Barney’s Brewers above).
In time, this is all going to be pretty cool — it’s just that it is, in fact, going to take some time — and more than anything, I want to make sure this gets done right, so it might be a little bit yet — but trust me, it’s coming!

The “core” of the MFLHistory application is going to be undergoing an overhaul. The single most visible result of this overhaul is going to be a pretty major shift in the method you use to add new records to your particular site.
In the current version:
- The record categories are very specific (season scores, career points, etc)
- The number of available records is completely fixed (you have three options for point milestones, for example)
- You can customize the record title, number of records displayed, sort order, and (for some records) a minimum qualification criteria
The vision for the NEW version:
- A “record designer” will be added, allowing you to choose specific criteria for a record and “save” it to your site’s configuration
- Criteria available will include choosing which seasons, weeks, and player positions (for individual records) to include
- This will allow you to create a virtually unlimited number of record combinations
- For leagues that want to separate early league season records from more recent seasons, you’ll be able to do just that — you could have both Most Points in a Game, 1997-2000 and Most Points in a Game, 2001-present records, for instance
- For individual records, this will allow you to combine positions that changed in the MFL setup (e.g., combining current DEF and previous TM positions into one Defensive Team category, or creating a top 5 scores, RB, WR, TE record)
- Of course, you’ll still be able to customize the display order, number to show, and title like you can today
- This designer functionality will be the engine that powers season and career individual player records, so you won’t see any movement on that prior to this feature
I can’t tell you the timeline on these changes (although to keep the pressure on myself, I’ll mention that NCAA BB Tourney time would be a good target), since as of right now they exist in my head and as notes on a pad of paper. There WILL be a testing period before this functionality obsoletes the current setup, and I’ll probably be looking for a few of you to help put it through some testing.
As always, if you have comments or suggestions around this conceptualization, please feel free to add them to the comments here!

In probably the least exciting update on this site in a while, I’ve moved this blog to a separate server from the MFLHistory site. This idea is obviously generated by what Sideline does, but I think it makes a lot of sense: now if the records site goes down, this site will still be up (and vice versa).
Next up will be a move of the forums, then next weekend, I am actually planning to move the entire MFLHistory site to a new web host. (I’ll let you know when this is happening exactly, and will probably shut down the history site admin panels during the move)
Oh, and is anyone actually watching the Pro Bowl? Me, I’m watching Olympic events that happened like, 10 hours ago.

New features include:
- the previously mentioned ability to enter summary data for a season (useful if you don’t have game-by-game history available)
Note: the GameCenter feature will not be available for any seasons which you enter in this way, since, well, you don’t have any game data
- A new admin feature that will allow you to modify team names used in the MFLHistory application (e.g., you could modify the names to be the name of the team owner) — more detail on this to come
- The long-awaited and previously previewed Individual Player records! (NOTE: I’d love to get some feedback regarding the performance/speed of this page — I’m a little concerned that since it’s accessing so much data for some leagues, it might be too slow, in which case I’d approach it differently to improve the performance)
- Finally, a small bug fix related to how previous matchups were being shown (as reported in the forum) is also included in this release
I’ll be posting more detailed instructions on some of these features in the next day or so, but wanted to get the functionality out to all of you as quickly as I could!
Also, please let me know if you find any bugs or have any questions related to the new features (the Support Forum is the best place for bug reports).
Enjoy!
